Having signed Romelu Lukaku already, Manchester United want to continue spending big, with Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier in their sights.

The Red Devils have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of signing Nemanja Matic from Chelsea, and as a result, they have now shifted their focus onto Eric Dier.

Jose Mourinho was keen to bring Matic to Old Trafford, and the Serbian favored a reunion as well, but Lukaku’s capture by Manchester United has upset Chelsea, who are now unwilling to do any business with Mourinho’s team.

Dier, on the other hand, is a much more feasible target for United, as the player would cherish an opportunity to work under the Portuguese tactician.

According to the Express, the English international has even talked to his friends of his fondness towards Manchester United and Jose Mourinho.

The midfielder is known to have been a huge Man United fan whilst growing up. In March, Dier even told The Player’s Tribune: “I was a big fan of Roy Keane when I was younger, and then it was Nemanja Vidic (one of the reasons I like the number 15 is Vidic) and his defensive partner Rio Ferdinand.”

The Old Trafford giants are ready to meet Tottenham’s £60 million valuation for the midfielder’s services. Dier is currently earning £70,000-a-week at Spurs, and he could be tempted to join United to get a significant raise.

Moreover, the stadium move by Tottenham might force them to sell a few of their star players this summer in order to balance the finances, and Manchester United are ready to pounce on Dier.
