Manchester City are close to finalising a deal for AS Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy. The defender could end up being Pep Guardiola’s third purchase of the season, as the manager eyes a serious title challenge this term.

According to Sky Sports, the French Champions value the player at more than £50m, and are keen to hold onto him. But if an offer around the valuation comes along, the Ligue 1 giants could be tempted, as it would surely test their resolve.

A deal is said to have been agreed, and things could go in the positive direction in the coming days, as Mendy appears keen to move to the Premier League. Further reports claim that City are ready to make an offer worth £40m, but will need to make significant progress on signing the player.

The France international made 39 appearances for Monaco last season, and helped the club win the Ligue 1 title, whilst also playing a part in helping Leonardo Jardim’s side reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Guardiola remains desperate for a left-back following the departure of Gael Clichy and Pablo Zabaleta, and is therefore, set to go all out for Monaco’s highly-rated defender.
