Manchester United have demanded that Real Madrid send Toni Kroos the other way if they are to stand a chance of signing David de Gea.

Despite claiming that they had ended their interest in the Spanish goalkeeper, Real have resurrected a transfer saga that has been going on for the last three summer transfer windows in a row.

Reports suggest their revived interest has angered the Manchester United hierarchy, as the La Liga club’s persistence has unsettled the player in the past, and they will be seeking to avoid a repeat of this as they are determined to have a fully focused squad ahead of the new season.

United’s relationship with Los Blancos is already extremely strained following past events in the De Gea saga, and matters only got worse when the Red Devils attempted to sign Alvaro Morata and reached an agreement with the player, but couldn’t sort out a transfer fee with his club.

Now, since Real have shown an interest in their goalkeeper once more, United are prepared to play hardball. The Premier League giants believe they are in a strong position to refuse any offer that comes their way, and will want to dictate terms if the transfer is to finally go ahead.

Jose Mourinho has been eager to seal a move for a defensive midfielder this summer, with Nemanja Matic and Eric Dier touted as his prime targets. However, as per the Mirror, De Gea to Madrid could see an unexpected window of opportunity open up – the chance to sign Toni Kroos.

The La Liga and Champions League winners will be reluctant to let go of their German anchor, who has been a crucial part of the first-team since his move from Bayern Munich.

However, if they are to stand any chance of signing Spain’s no.1 goalkeeper, they will have to consider letting go of their 27-year-old midfield maestro. These transfer reports only serve to build up tensions ahead of the pair’s clashes on their tour of America and in the UEFA Super Cup next month.
