Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez was hours away from joining Manchester City on the deadline day of transfer window. However, a complication, in Arsenal’s attempts to secure Thomas Lemar as a replacement of the Chilean, meant that the deal was off.
It is reported that Sanchez was elated to know that he was going to Manchester City, and was even congratulated by national team-mates before the deal was cancelled.
The Telegraph has revealed that Sanchez was supposedly dismayed with his cancelled transfer in the immediate reaction to the incident. There are other reports from different sources that even claimed that the Chilean was devastated, and wasn’t in the right frame of mind to start the match against Paraguay.
However, Sanchez did start the match, and his team lost the game 3-0 in an uncharacteristic fashion. Some newspapers in Chile are even blaming Arsenal for Sanchez’s bad game, stating that ‘his mind was everywhere except the match because of the situation.’
It is believed that the Gunners and Arsene Wenger now face the though task of integrating an unhappy player into their setup. Arsenal host Bournemouth at the Emirates in their next fixture of the Premier League. It would be interesting to see how Sanchez fares for the club after the debacle.
