Jose Mourinho has intensified his search for a midfielder, as he looks to replace Michael Carrick at the end of the season.

And as per the Daily Star, Atletico’s Saul Niguez is one of the major targets for Manchester United to consider for next year.

The English club had sent scouts to the Champions League game between Roma and Atletico, where Radja Nainggolan, another Manchester United target, was also being scouted.

Saul Niguez is one of the top rated young midfielders in the world football at the moment.

The 22-year-old has found himself on the radars of many European clubs, yet he has shown great loyalty by signing a 9-year contract extension, that could keep him at the Madrid-based club until 2026.

However, United seem determined to test the resolve of Atletico by making a bid for the Spanish midfielder next year.

Jose Mourinho feels that Saul will be the perfect replacement of Carrick, as the Spaniard contributes a lot to the defence, apart from his play-making abilities – just like Carrick.

Other than Saul, Manchester United are also considering Nainggolan of Roma as a back-up target.

The 29-year-old was linked with the Red Devils during the transfer window, but no move materialize. The Belgian is a tireless box-to-box midfielder known for his industry and aggression.
