Real Madrid talisman Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly demanded Gareth Bale to be dropped from the first-team for Marco Asensio.

The youngster has taken Spanish football by storm since his debut, having broken into Zinedine Zidane’s first team last season and making a mark with his displays on the pitch. He also featured for the recent Under-21 Championship, where again, he did not fail to impress.

The talented midfielder has started the campaign in stunning fashion, scoring in both legs of his side’s clash against Clasico rivals Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup. Though the Spaniard managed to score in Real’s 2-2 draw with Valencia, the Spanish giants have failed to offer any competition for the top spot and are facing an early season crisis.

However, Asensio’s new-found stardom has casted a shadow over his fellow teammate Gareth Bale’s future at the Spanish capital. With the poor performance his side has displayed recently, coupled with Bale’s current form, Ronaldo has arrived at a conclusion that Asensio should be given better opportunities in the first-team rather than the Welshman.

The Portuguese international believes that playing alongside the young Spaniard offers him the best chance to catch up to Lionel Messi, who has already reached double figures in terms of goals scored.

Furthermore, according to Don Balon, the forward does not believe in the quality of Borja Mayoral, and claims he should be kept away from Los Blancos’ first-team along with the former Tottenham man. Instead, Asensio should be prioritised, as he is a future star, according to Ronaldo.

The 21-year-old certainly has what it takes to reach the top, and him replacing senior players like Bale is an indication of that. Asensio has already made two starts for the Galacticos this season, and his Portuguese teammate will surely appreciate more of that.
