Manchester United Preparing To Trigger £53m Bid Of French International
Manchester United boss is reportedly keen on signing Barcelona’s star defender Samuel Umtiti, as he looks to strengthen the Red Devils’ back-line.
The 23-year-old centre-back has shown tremendous potential since his £21 million move to Camp Nou from Lyon in the summer of 2016, and now, United are said to be preparing a massive swoop for the Frenchman.
According to The Daily Mail, the Premier league giants ‘have identified Umtiti as a target,’ and are laying down the groundwork for a transfer.

It is being claimed that United are ‘hoping to take advantage of his £53m release clause’ and bring the France international to Old Trafford before other European elites start preying on him.

The Red Devils were quite busy in this year’s transfer window, and brought in the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic, and Victor Lindelof. But from the looks of it, their defensive summer signing of Lindelof from Benfica is turning out to be a poor one, with the Swede having failed to impress in his below par performances for the club.
A conspicuous figure in United’s 2-1 loss to Huddersfield Town last month, the 23-year-old is yet to start in the Premier League. Though, with his current form, a start seems far from reality for the Swedish international, and furthermore, to set things straight, Mourinho is now eyeing to bring in Umtiti.
The Special One ‘believes his release clause offers enticing value,’ and believes that the Frenchman would be a valuable addition to his squad in Manchester. The defender has featured in 15 games so far for his new manager, Ernesto Valverde, out of the overall 58 appearances he has made for La Blaugrana.
Umtiti’s recent performances for Barca, who sit on top of the La Liga table with 31 points from 11 games, have helped him earn a national call-up for France’s upcoming friendly fixtures against Wales and Germany on Friday and Tuesday respectively.
