While defensive woes have been the crucial factor in Manchester United’s poor Premier League form, their performances up front hasn’t been all too good either.

Despite having a diverse set of scorers, their best lot in over a decade in terms of double digits reached by individual players, the performance in the offensive half has often been lacking.

Further, much uncertainty exists over the future of the men manning those spots. Romelu Lukaku seems exit bound and there are great doubts over Anthony Martial as well despite his freshly signed 5-year extension. The likes of Juan Mata and Alexis Sanchez also seem likely to depart.

As of such, the club has been trying to attain promising strikers and could be in pole position now for a particular talent.

As per the Daily Mirror, United are confident of signing Lille star Nicolas Pepe this summer. The 23-year-old is a prolific goalscorer and is capable of playing across the frontline, making him the perfect solution to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s needs at Old Trafford.

The report adds that the Red Devils are willing to splash upto £45 million for the Ivory Coast international after scouting him extensively the past season.

However, United aren’t the only party interested. Arsenal and Liverpool were thought to be eager for his signature as well, while PSG and Bayern Munich were also battling it out, with the German giants believed to be frontrunners as of recent.

At this point in time, Arsenal are the only club other than United who won’t be able to provide Champions League football to the striker. However, the source reports that United won’t be facing that problem and may have a deal in place.

In addition to scoring goals, Pepe has also proven himself to be an able creator of chances, something United have been lacking as of recent.
