Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time at Manchester United has been turbulent to say the least. The club ended their season with morale at a crushing low, having lost 2-0 to Cardiff City at Old Trafford.
Incidentally, the relegated Cardiff, Solskjaer’s former employees, were also the first team that the side had faced under the Norwegian’s tutelage, then winning 5-1.
However, not a shade of that squad has been on display in the past few months at the club, with offensive performance being poor and defensive displays bordering on the pathetic.
Now, it appears that the Cardiff loss brought out a different side of Solskjaer.
As per the Sun, the Norwegian gaffer tore into his players after the defeat, blaming them for the side’s fall from grace. He allegedly canceled their Monday debriefing and only informed the players of certain short-term goals.
On a more serious note, the report claims that Solskjaer then threatened to get rid of half of his players due to their attitude. This is a daunting claim as it may indicate some anonymity amongst the dressing room for their new manager, who had commanded complete support from the roster to make his interim spell into a permanent one.
Rumors have suggested that the likes of Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and even Anthony Martial are amongst the players who faced possible axing.
The baby-faced assassin is then believed to have told the players that they embarrassed him, the club, and the fans. In particular, he critiqued the squad for not having finished in a safe position during the final weeks of the campaign.
Now, the Red Devils have to hope that Manchester City wins the FA Cup finals against Watford. If the Mancunian side loses, United will be forced to qualify for the Europa League on July 25 itself.
This clashes with the club’s pre-season schedule and this may have particularly peeved Solskjaer who is hoping to drastically turn things around in that period.
