Injuries may have begun haunting Ole Gunnar Solskjaer already this season. Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford featured injuries to Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial.

In fact, Shaw’s injury, which appeared to be a hamstring problem, almost certainly led to the break in dynamic that resulted in Jordan Ayew’s opener for the Eagles.

The fact that makes both injury concerns even more worrying is that these are spots that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn’t have a plethora of options at.

While Shaw was replaced by Ashley Young on Saturday and the left-back’s spot can be fulfilled by other versatile wingbacks as well, the same cannot be said regarding the striker’s position.

Now, this may affect one of the club’s outgoing players.

According to the Guardian, Martial’s injury may play a massive role in determining whether or not Alexis Sanchez will depart of Inter Milan as otherwise planned.

The Chilean striker was believed to be on the verge of completing a loan move to the Serie A club with United set on paying a sizable portion of his wages.

However, now Martial’s thigh problem may force Solskjaer to retain the services of the former Arsenal and Barcelona forward.

What Solskjaer Said About Alexis Sanchez After Crystal Palace Defeat

The Norwegian gaffer had mentioned at the start of the season that he was looking forward to deploying Sanchez as a striker. In those same comments, he acknowledged that their frontline was stretched thin.

While Mason Greenwood’s potential gave the club the confidence of offloading Romelu Lukaku, it was always expected that such injuries would put United in a bit of a pickle.

At the moment, the club is still awaiting the scans of the Frenchman’s thigh in order to ascertain the full extent of his problem. The same injury also put away the little steam that United seemed to have gathered towards the end of the game on Saturday when Daniel James was able to equalize in the 89th minute.
