Manchester United fans ought to be very confused about Paul Pogba. His summer revelation that he was up for a new challenge and the speculation that followed linking him to Real Madrid was a long and tiring tryst.
At the time, most fans seemed to be eager to see him depart, despite the fact that the Frenchman had had his best career season last campaign.
As the English transfer window closed and Pogba remained a Red Devil, support shifted in his favor. The unfortunate incident of racism after the Wolverhampton penalty miss was also dealt with deftly by United fans who rallied behind him.
However, his actions hours before the closing of the European transfer window did topple some of that reinstated faith in the World-Cup winner.
Now, we may have an insight into Pogba’s mind from a close source.
Paul Pogba’s brother, Mathias, recently sat down with El Chiringuito and revealed the following about the Manchester United midfielder (via SportsWitness):
“Paul knows he cannot leave Manchester United, so he’s going to focus on this season. It’s not easy right now, because he has a lot of responsibility in the team. A lot of big players have left. The only great player is De Gea, the goalkeeper, which means he’s going to have to put a lot of effort in every game.”
Mathias goes on to add that Ed Woodward’s insistence at pegging a high pricetag on his brother likely dissuaded Real Madrid from making an approach.
He further comments: “If you really want Paul, either you put the money or it doesn’t get done.”
There are still many who staunchly believe that Mino Raiola will succeed in engineering Pogba’s departure to Madrid in the near future.
However, until then he is a Manchester United player and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to figure out how best to utilize him.
