Nemanja Matic has officially signed a contract extension at Man Utd.
The Serbian has earned a 3-year extension at Old Trafford following his impressive performances of late. Matic’s displays since Scott McTominay succumbed to injury is likely to have played a big part in him being offered a new deal.
Furthermore, with the addition of Bruno Fernandes, the former Chelsea man has proven to be the perfect midfield anchor with Paul Pogba next to him. Tactically speaking, the defensive midfielder could well be the most important figure in midfield for United.
Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems to be delighted with the Serbian international’s extended stay, which he expressed in the official announcement.
“I am delighted that Nemanja has signed a new contract, I know his experience, professionalism and leadership will be invaluable to this young talented group,” said the Norwegian to the club’s official website.
“We have great strength in midfield and Nemanja’s attributes are a key part of that. Nemanja has been here for three seasons now and really understands the values of playing for Manchester United. He remains hugely ambitious and determined which will be vital as we look to achieve our aims over the coming years.”
It’s been some U-turn for Matic. Poor form, including recognising himself as one of the worst performers in one of #MUFC’s worst ever performances. Seemed to lose faith of Ole. Said some things. Had offers from others. Only back when McTominay injured. Now, immense & a leader💪🏻👏🏻

Happy that Nemanja Matić has signed a new contract at the Utd. A bit surprised that it’s a 3 year deal, but nonetheless, it’s thoroughly deserved. Hopefully the plan from the club is still to sign a DM either this summer or in 2021 as he can’t play 30-40 games a season anymore.

Matic looks like a different player from early season and key component in OGS getting most out of Bruno and Pogba.

What a turn around it’s been for Nemanja Matic. He looked to be on his way out prior to lockdown but is now looking like a new player, providing stability to our midfield, allowing Pogba and Bruno to do what they do best. Fully deserved!👏

Matic has been very good recently but his form over the past year or so has been pretty patchy. We didn’t even give Giggs or Scholes 3 year contracts when they were over 30. Matic will turn 32 next month. What’s that all about??

Meanwhile, although opinions are split on this decision from their club, a majority of the fans have reacted positively to the news. A significant section of the fanbase believes the midfielder’s services are valuable and his experience will offer guidance to McTominay and any potential youngsters the Mancunians may wish to add to their midfield in the future.
On the other hand, some supporters cannot make sense of the decision to extend Matic’s contract by three whole years.
