Manchester United may be set to receive a surprise addition to their ranks in the form of Thiago Alcantara.

The Red Devils have been consistently fielding youthful outfits this campaign and the results are clearly out there. While there certainly are instances where the lack of experience hits them hard, overall the passion and hunger for results encompassed within the young legs has translated quite effectively into positive performances.

As such, players slightly above their peak are easily being named by fans to be deadwood and surplus. Juan Mata appears to have been on the slow burn of the same and the latest reactions to Nemanja Matic’s long-term contract extension paints a similar picture.

As such, it is interesting to see what fans of the club will make of the possibility of the 29-year old Alcantara joining their ranks.

As per Sport, the Bayern Munich midfielder is headed to Old Trafford in what is largely viewed as a surprise decision. While United were mentioned in past claims about the player, the most recent news suggested that Premier League champions Liverpool would be his next destination.

His looming exit from Munich has been a foregone conclusion, confirmed by the higher-ups at the club and it is understood that a contract extension was denied by him. Further, the decision to allegedly sell his local home in Munich is also viewed as further proof of the same.

However, Thiago’s arc edging towards United certainly needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. For starters, the main claim citing the same stems from a larger report about his brother Rafinha. As such, the viability of the same remains at large. However, sources haven’t ruled out the possibility of a Manchester arrival entirely.

It will be interesting to see what potential role he’ll fulfill if he ever becomes a Red Devil, given the midfield quality already at hand there.
