Twitter Reacts As Manchester United Agree Deal To Sign Edinson Cavani
Manchester United have allegedly agreed on a deal to sign Edinson Cavani.
After a thoroughly frustrating transfer window, Manchester United fans may finally have a deal to claim. However, there may be mixed feelings about the player involved.
Despite reports claiming that the Red Devils are looking to do late business including yet another attempt for Jadon Sancho, a left-back, and possibly even a striker, fans seem to be wary of their side’s dealings.
As such, the latest reports linking them extensively to a striker has certainly come as a surprise.
According to ESPN, Edinson Cavani has agreed to a two-year-long deal to join Manchester United on Saturday.
The former PSG striker was a free-agent after being released by the Ligue 1 giants in the summer. A potential deal to go to the La Liga did not materialize.
As such, this new claim suggests that United have acquired the Uruguayan striker and that Cavani will be heading to Manchester for his medical which pegs a potential announcement “either on Sunday or Monday.”
Fans certainly had a mixed response to this on Twitter. On the one hand, the prolificacy of the 33-year-old in front of goal cannot be denied.
God I hope I’m wrong but a Cavani deal stinks of a Falcao situation all over again 🙄

Edison Cavani is a huge upgrade on Odion Ighalo but that deal should not be getting concluded before Jadon Sancho — never in a million years.
It reeks of Ed Woodward just doing his own thing.

Cavani bagging against PSG in the UCL is happening isn’t it

Cavani is a short term option but that isn’t always bad & if he’ll close the 33 point gap while others develop then it’s a good signing. Will either be another Zlatan type signing or another Falcao type. Time will tell but let’s not write him off just yet..

Ole has mentioned many times how he wants Greenwood to develop into a striker and now he’ll play a full season at RW. Martial, Ighalo and Cavani now ahead of him as strikers. He needs games at 9 to develop!

City have no back up ST.
Chelsea have giroud.
Respect Cavani.
He isn’t that bad at all.
Utd need other incomings though. pic.twitter.com/qisJ4CS5FK

I think Cavani bring goals. He’s still quick! Both feet. Can bring elite mentality to the squad which is lacking. A lot of people will find negatives but I don’t pay his wages and for free transfer I’m all for it! We’re playing a lot of games this season and in particular Europe!

However, the very fact that Cavani is 33 will send warning bells ringing as United already have a poor record with clearing deadwood. Further, the player’s wage package will also be a matter of concern and a trap that the Premier League outfit will do their best to avoid, especially given the Alexis Sanchez debacle.
Incidentally, the nature of this saga certainly holds strong parallels to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s arrival and short stint at Old Trafford – A player well in his thirties coming from PSG on a free-transfer.
All in all, Cavani is being labelled as clear panic buy with the club seemingly opting for a safe free-agent rather than convince and pay their prospective players and their parent clubs to make the switch.
There were certainly positive remarks too, particularly as to how Cavani could ease the burden of Anthony Martial and Odion Ighalo.
