Aaron Wan-Bissaka is one of the best defensive full-backs in the Premier League. A nightmare in a one-v-one situation, there aren’t many attackers who have managed to get better of him in the last few seasons.
Despite his indisputable defensive ability, he still finds himself at home this summer – unable to get into the England squad for Euro 2020. Kieran Trippier, Reece James, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all favoured ahead of him by Gareth Southgate due to their attacking abilities.
Trippier is also highly thought of at Man Utd, with the Premier League giants allegedly interested in bringing the La Liga winner back to England.
The former Spurs man’s arrival would only make things more difficult for Wan-Bissaka. Similar to England, here too he could lose his place in the lineup to a more creative right-back.
However, a reported ‘defensive reshuffle’ from Solskjaer might help the former Crystal Palace star.
According to the Sun, the Norwegian tactician is considering to use the right-back in a more central role during the upcoming pre-season. As such, the 23-year-old’s pace and tackling ability could be put to best use in the middle of a back four or in the right side of a three.
If Wan-Bissaka can manage to seamlessly slot into these positions, akin to City defender Kyle Walker, not only would it give Man Utd more tactical flexibility, it would also increase his chances of getting a call-up from Southgate.
