Manchester United Could Secure This Summer’s Best Signing For Just £40m
Manchester United will have to break the British transfer record for Jadon Sancho, but they can save a lot of money elsewhere on a different signing.
The Red Devils are close to reaching an agreement with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of Sancho. If the Bundesliga giants’ valuation of around €95m for their star winger is met, the 21-year-old will become the most expensive Englishman in football history.
Hence, in all likelihood, United won’t be able to pay over the odds for their other transfer targets. They’ll have to look for bargain options to save money and upgrade Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad at the same time.
In that regard, the Premier League giants could do a lot worse than attempt to bring Raphael Varane to Old Trafford this summer.
The Frenchman has just a year to run on his deal at Santiago Bernabeu. As such, Real Madrid either want to extend his contract or sell him this summer itself to avoid a situation similar to the Sergio Ramos saga.
According to the Athletic, the Spanish outfit will agree to part ways with their star centre-back in a deal worth between £40m-£45m.
If that’s indeed the case, United should do their best to sign the 28-year-old ahead of the likes of PSG and Chelsea. Signing a centre-back as good as Virgil van Dijk and Harry Maguire for half the price would be this summer’s best piece of business.
