Manchester United Told To Sign Championship Defender By Sir Alex Ferguson
Manchester United have been ‘told’ by Sir Alex Ferguson to sign Ronnie Edwards.
The teenager has played six times in the Championship this season and is said to have already caught the eye of the former United boss. According to The Express, Ferguson has been so impressed by Edwards that he told United’s football director John Murtough to sign him.
Furthermore, Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford are also said to be ‘keen’ on securing the young defender’s services according to the report. Darren Ferguson – the Peterborough boss – is Fergie’s son which may give the Red Devils an edge in negotiations should the report be true.
Getting the seal of approval from a manager of such legendary stature is no joke. There must be something special about the 18-year-old that prompted the ex-Scottish tactician to personally tell the club to pursue him.
On the other hand, earlier this month, the Mancunians completed the signing of Hale End Academy product Harrison Parker – one of the most highly-rated U15 defenders in England.
The centre-back attracted interest from multiple English clubs, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side fended them off to secure their target. Arsenal’s academy has been producing very admirable talents as of late, so the acquisition is of significance.
It is clear that the Premier League giants were already on course to strengthen their youth side and an addition like the Peterborough talent would only make things even better.
Moreover, with seasoned defenders like Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire at the club, young defenders have the perfect crowd to look up to and learn from.
