Cristiano Ronaldo’s hat-trick secured all three points for Manchester United against Tottenham Hotspur.

Ronaldo came under criticism for his trip to Portugal without Ralf Rangnick’s knowledge after he was not included in his side’s derby defeat due to a problem with his hip flexor.

But it seems the much talked about trip did wonders for the 37-year-old, as he silenced the critics by delivering his best performance under the interim boss in United’s 3-2 win over Spurs.

Everything Ronaldo does leads to a substantial media attention, and when his team struggle on the pitch, things take a turn for the worse very quickly.

Nevertheless, the Portuguese icon, as he has done throughout his career, responded to claims he has been a ‘problem’ at United by putting the ball into the back of the net.

An in-form Ronaldo is certainly a very good problem to have for United, who will need their talisman to do his talking on the pitch once again when Atletico Madrid visit the city for the second leg of their Champions League clash.

On Saturday, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner also became professional football’s all-time leading goalscorer, surpassing Josef Bican’s 805 career goals.

With Tom Brady, the greatest player in NFL history, in attendance at Old Trafford, Ronaldo couldn’t have picked a better day to reach the milestone which cemented him as the greatest goalscorer in football history.
