Erik ten Hag is Manchester United’s preferred option to take charge at Old Trafford and his ‘agreement’ with Ajax has made him more attainable than Mauricio Pochettino.

The Premier League giants, well into their process to appoint the new permanent manager, are keen on making a final decision before the end of the season.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag is leading the race to become United’s manager at the moment. The Red Devils are understood to be impressed by how the 52-year-old has built two successful teams either side of the sales of Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong in 2019.

Negotiations with both Pochettino – who is still under serious consideration – and Ten Hag is expected to be straightforward following PSG and Ajax’s Champions League exits in the round of 16.

Pochettino is likely to be sacked by the Ligue 1 giants. But the situation could get tricky if PSG decide to keep the Argentine at the helm beyond this season. However, in case of Ten Hag, irrespective of what Ajax want, United will find it easier to get their man.

According to Dutch journalist Mike Verweij (via the Express), Ten Hag has an agreement in place at the Dutch outfit that would allow him to leave if he were to receive a tempting offer.

As such, once United make an official approach for Ten Hag and convince him to move to Manchester, Ajax CEO Edwin van der Sar will fulfill the agreement and open the exit doors.
