Manchester United have made significant progress in their pursuit of Frenkie de Jong in the recent days.

The gap in the Barcelona midfielder’s valuation narrowed between the two clubs, with United now close to agreeing a fee in the region of £68m. As per talkSport, the Red Devils are aiming to complete the transfer by Thursday, June 30.

The 25-year-old’s name has been on the top of Erik ten Hag’s wish list ever since his appointment as United’s new manager.

The former Ajax boss greatly values the success they shared during their time in Amsterdam, and is confident that De Jong perfectly fits the profile needed to implement his possession based style of football in Manchester.

After lengthy negotiations it seems the Netherlands international is all set to become the first arrival under Ten Hag.

After United reach agreement with the Catalan outfit, they would still need the green light from the player’s camp in order to complete the move.

However, it’s understood De Jong is open to reuniting with the Dutch tactician and could be part of the United squad which leaves for a tour of Thailand and Australia on July 8.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are expected to move for Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva to fill De Jong’s void in the midfield.
