Manchester United Right-Back Set To Join English Side After Disappointing Pre-Season
Manchester United are having a nightmare of a summer transfer window with regards to incomings, failing to bring in a new midfielder and forward before the start of the new season.
However, the Red Devils have done well in trimming their squad. Big names like Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani and Nemanja Matic have departed on a free transfer, while Andreas Pereira and Dylan Levitt have been sold to Fulham and Dundee United respectively.
The loan exit list includes Alex Telles, Dean Henderson, and Alvaro Fernandez amongst others. And Ethan Laird is set to become the latest player to leave the club on a temporary basis.
The talented full-back wasn’t able to impress during the pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia, and is being allowed to leave despite the obvious lack of quality at the right-back position at Old Trafford. His potential is recognised by the club, but he is deemed physically not ready for the first-team.
Laird was initially in talks with Watford, but the move collapsed following their signing of Mario Gaspar from Villarreal.
According to the Telegraph, United have now agreed a season-long loan deal for the 21-year-old to move to Queens Park Rangers.
Laird will join Fernandez in the Championship. The Spanish left-back registered two assists on his first start for Preston North End.
