Manchester United Could Sign Ten Hag Target For €30m In January
Manchester United won’t have to spend much to sign Cody Gakpo in January, with PSV reportedly under pressure to make a big sale.
Erik ten Hag was interested in bringing the Dutch forward to United during the summer transfer window, but the club hierarchy decided to not make any other attacking additions after agreeing to pay an initial fee of £80.75million for Antony to Ajax.
Gakpo spoke to the United manager a few times, but once a potential move to Old Trafford fell through, he opted to continue playing under Ruud van Nistelrooy in the Eredivisie, rejecting approaches from Leeds United and Southampton.
The 23-year-old recently insisted he’s happy at his boyhood club, but will consider a switch to a bigger league if an opportunity arose. Further, PSV won’t be able to do much to keep their prized asset due to their financial situation.
As per Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, PSV wouldn’t be in a position to reject a €30m or higher bid in the winter window, as they need to make an important sale.
Gakpo has been in excellent form this season, having been directly involved in 18 league goals.
United, despite their possessional dominance, have struggled to score the desired number of goals due to Anthony Martial’s absence and Cristiano Ronaldo’s poor form in front of goal. The arrival of a new goal-scorer in January could have a significant impact on United’s results.
