Facundo Pellistri could leave Man Utd without making a first-team appearance.

The Uruguayan moved to England in the summer of 2020 from Penarol and has had two separate loan spells with Deportivo Alaves since then. His performances with the LaLiga side earned him a place in the national team, and he’s expected to be included in Diego Alonso’s World Cup squad.

However, the 20-year-old has not managed to impress decision-makers at Carrington enough to feature for the senior side.

Erik ten Hag has also overlooked the talented right winger in favour of academy talents Anthony Elanga and Alejandro Garnacho. Elanga, who prefers to play out on the left, started on the right in absence of Antony against West Ham.

An injury ended any chance of leaving United on loan during the summer, but Pellistri’s agent has suggested the Uruguay international is likely to leave the club after the World Cup.

“I think that with a good World Cup, as we think it will have, his departure is imminent,” his agent Edgardo Lasalvia told ESPN.

Pellistri has been impressive in his seven appearances for Uruguay and was recently praised by Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo.

United still have to play four more games before the mid-season break, and if Pellistri doesn’t get any minutes, a departure would be best for both the club and the player.
