Manchester United find themselves in a tricky situation, as they try to cut ties with Cristiano Ronaldo and look for his replacement.

Ronaldo’s time at Old Trafford is all but over, with the player informed he’s not welcomed at Carrington after the World Cup. His interview bashing decision-makers at the club has not gone down well at United.

It is understood that United are working on finding an agreement with his representatives to terminate the 37-year-old’s contract.

His departure would further weaken United’s already light attack, forcing the hierarchy to bring in another forward in January.

According to Spanish outlet SPORT, the Red Devils are monitoring the situation of Memphis Depay at Barcelona. No formal approach has been made so far, but things could change quickly based on the Dutchman’s performance at the World Cup.

An impressive showing in the grand tournament would make Depay a very attractive option, with Barcelona open to letting him leave in January to improve their wage bill.

Arsenal and Chelsea have also shown interest in the 28-year-old, who flopped in the Premier League during his first stint at United.

The Netherlands international hasn’t featured regularly in LaLiga this season due to a thigh injury, but has often shown his versatility and technical quality at Camp Nou.

He could prove to be a smart buy for Premier League clubs challenging for a Champions League spot.
