What Casemiro Told His Agent After United’s 4-0 Defeat At Brentford
Manchester United are on a winning streak of eight straight matches in all competitions, and are favourites going into the Manchester derby tomorrow.
That was certainly not the case the last time the Red Devils were scheduled to face their neighbours. United were sixth on the table after losing two of their opening six league games. As such, the eventual 6-3 humbling by Manchester City didn’t surprise many.
That afternoon in the blue side of Manchester was also the last time Erik ten Hag left Casemiro on the bench for a league outing.
The Brazilian has transformed the side’s fortunes with his experience and awareness in the middle of the park. It’s tough to imagine a United starting XI without his name these days. However, early in the season, the club feared one of the thrashings might influence the 30-year-old’s plans to leave the comfort of Madrid for the crisis in Manchester.
It is suggested that Casemiro had signalled his intentions to leave Real Madrid before the start of the season.
United started their campaign with a home defeat against Brighton. Six days later, Ten Hag’s men conceded four first-half goals at Brentford. This led to concerns in some quarters over the ambitious transfer.
According to The Telegraph, Casemiro was watching the Brentford match from home in Madrid and began sending messages to his agent saying: “Tell them I’ll fix this”.
Such is the five-time Champions League-winning midfielder’s mentality that United’s troubles only deepened his desire to move to Old Trafford. The recruitment team flew to the Spanish capital a few days later and sealed the move.
