Mason Mount has decided to leave his boyhood club Chelsea for Manchester United, and his potential transfer is bound to raise eyebrows in Manchester as well as the west of London.

Frank Lampard, a Chelsea man through and through, said his goodbyes to Stamford Bridge last weekend after his second stint as the Blues manager.

Mason Mount was also present on the field after the full-time whistle. His apparent emotional reaction during the lap of honour at full-time whistle suggested that was his final act in the Blue colour.

Mason Mount decides to join Manchester United

Chelsea opened talks over a new deal for Mount early in the season. Towards the tail end of the term, it became clear a breakthrough was no longer on the cards.

Few days after Chelsea’s final game of the season, it has emerged that the 24-year-old has reached an agreement on personal terms with United. The Red Devils have convinced Mount to join Erik ten Hag’s project despite interest from Arsenal and Liverpool.

The development has surprised many, not least Mount’s teammate, Thiago Silva. Instagram user ‘just_cfc’ shared the news with an edited picture of Mount in United training shirt.

The Brazilian centre-back, who lifted the Champions League trophy in 2021 with Mount, reacted by commenting two crying emojis. Clearly, Silva isn’t happy with the English midfielder’s anticipated exit.

However, there’s a long way to go before Mount really dons a United shirt. The Old Trafford hierarchy are yet to formally approach Chelsea to find an agreement on a fee for the player.

Mount’s current contract at Chelsea runs out after 12 months. As such, the London outfit don’t hold many cards and risk losing their academy product for nothing next summer if they don’t thrash out a deal with any club in the next few months.
