Manchester United have agreed to cut ties with Zidane Iqbal permanently, as the talented star failed to make a breakthrough under Erik ten Hag.

The 2022-23 campaign kicked off with hopes of Iqbal carving out his place in the senior setup on the back of a promising pre-season and United’s lack of new midfield additions in the summer transfer window.

By the end of the term, Iqbal was named in 17 matchday squads, but he didn’t get a single minute to showcase his talents. Early in this summer’s window, United have decided to let him leave on a permanent basis.

Iqbal sends heartfelt message to Manchester United

As per multiple reports, United have accepted a lowly bid in the region of €1million from Eredivisie side FC Utrecht.

The 20-year-old will sign a four-year contract with the Dutch outfit, ending his 15-year tie with the Red Devils. He confirmed his exit with a heartfelt goodbye message.

“From the Cliff to Carrington and then to the Theatre Of Dreams (OT), I have so many incredible memories of my fifteen years associated with this amazing club,” Iqbal wrote.

The academy graduate, who made his first-team debut against Young Boys in the Champions League in December 2021, added: “The time is right to go and take on a new challenge. It is one that I cannot wait for and I’ll be applying myself with the same level of desire, determination and dedication that has taken me this far in my career.”

Iqbal is set for a fresh challenge at Utrecht, one of Ten Hag’s former clubs in the Netherlands, while United are working on bringing in a new midfielder – Mason Mount. The Chelsea man first caught Ten Hag’s attention in the Dutch League with Vitesse.
