Manchester United are less than ten days away from not having any suitable goalkeeping option in their ranks, with both David de Gea and Dean Henderson facing uncertain futures at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag doesn’t want to head into the new season with De Gea as his Number 1 on the back of a frustrating end to the 2022-23 season. The Spaniard, meanwhile, isn’t too keen on accepting a significant pay cut.

As things stand, the most likely scenario is that this week is the 32-year-old’s last full week at United and he’d be departing as a free agent on June 30 after his 12-year spell at United.

Henderson unlikely to take De Gea’s place at Manchester United

Henderson’s situation, at least at Carrington, is deemed even worse.

The academy product is due to return to the club for pre-season. But as per the Manchester Evening News, the 26-year-old has “p—-d off” Ten Hag and there is next to no indication he is being considered for a starting spot after an uneasy couple of years with his parent club. He didn’t speak to the United boss before going out on loan last summer.

The Englishman is appreciated at Nottingham Forest, who are interested in signing him permanently following a fruitful temporary spell at the City ground.

Meanwhile, United have intensified their hunt for a new Number 1. As per the Daily Mail, Andre Onana is a leading contender to play between the sticks for Ten Hag next season in the event De Gea departs.

It is understood Onana has been sounded about a move to Old Trafford. Inter want £50m for the Champions League final’s star performer. Chelsea, having agreed to cut ties with Edouard Mendy, are also interested in the former Ajax goalkeeper.
