Wayne Rooney Looking To Sign Former Man United Teammate In January
Derby County interim manager Wayne Rooney is reportedly interested in signing Phil Jones.
The former Man United captain has taken interim charge of the Rams following the sacking of Phillip Cocu, as Derby find themselves in the relegation zone ahead of Boxing Day fixtures.
Meanwhile, Phil Jones is yet to appear for the Red Devils this season and was not even included in Man United’s 25-man Premier League squad in October.
With the Championship side in a need of an experienced figure at the backline and Jones looking for first team opportunities, the former teammates at Old Trafford could now help each other by reuniting at Pride Park Stadium.
Man United are keen to find a new club for Phil Jones as well, and according to Star, they are ready to pay a large proportion of his £120,000-a-week wages to facilitate a loan deal in January.
Premier League outfit West Brom are also interested in the 28-year-old centre-back.
There could be another potential reunion on the cards as Sam Allardyce, who replaced Slaven Bilic at the Hawthorns on Wednesday, was Phil Jones’ manager when he played for Blackburn Rovers.
The Baggies’ boss is expected to priortise a new defender next month, as only Leeds United have conceded more Premier League goals this season than West Brom, who face Liverpool next.
