How Donny van de Beek Can ‘Thrive’ With Jadon Sancho In The Team

Jadon Sancho’s transfer to Manchester United is officially completed and announced. Finally. Now, talks of what the second-most expensive English player of all-time would bring at the Theatre of Dreams will take the centre stage.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer singled out Sancho as a player he would want within a month of succeeding Jose Mourinho, as per the Telegraph. As such, he will certainly hope for a transformative impact from the signing who’s exciting, entertaining, and epitomises football which is completely opposite of the Mourinho era at Old Trafford.

Sancho’s 50 goals and 64 assists during his time with Dortmund alone justify the £73m fee the Premier League giants committed to spend. But the way he linked up with two completely different players in Achraf Hakimi and Erling Haaland in Germany, also show a player who can add to his teammate’s abilities.

Already there’s expectation that he can do the same at United. Freelance commentator Tim Long believes Sancho’s arrival will improve Donny van de Beek.

The Dutchman thrived as an off-ball creator at Ajax, finding goal-creating and goal-scoring areas in and around the penalty box with his movement.

However, Solskjaer’s system is ‘designed for a passing No 10: Bruno Fernandes’. To realise his potential at United, Van de Beek ‘needs to be complimented’ with a wide creator like Jadon Sancho.

There’s some truth to this theory if Van de Beek’s impressive partnership with his former Ajax teammate Hakim Ziyech, also a wide-creator, is examined. Even in England, the 24-year-old has looked much better when lined up alongside Juan Mata.

Although Sancho will have to first start training with his teammates in order to sync with them. He will join the club’s pre-season camp in August.
