Manchester United Midfielder Set To Sign New Contract After Cristiano Ronaldo’s Arrival

Bruno Fernandes has been ‘persuaded’ to extend his contract following Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United.

The Portuguese midfielder is closing in on a five-year deal, believed to be in the region of £250,000-a-week, the Sun have reported.

The new contract extension could be announced within the next few weeks, as after talks for months, United have managed to convince Fernandes to commit his future until 2026 with a 12-month extension option.

The English newspaper further claim that Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford alongside Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane in the recently concluded transfer window has had a positive say in Fernandes’ decision to stay.

The new contract will see the 26-year-old’s salary increase by nearly £100,000-a-week – a deserved bump, considering the impact he has made under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since moving to Manchester from Lisbon.

During mid-week, the club endured an embarrassing defeat to Young Boys in their Champions League opener, but Fernandes still impressed, as he assisted Ronaldo with outside-of-the-boot pass in the first-half.

Solskjaer will certainly be delighted with Ronaldo’s reported role in Fernandes’ extension, and now would hope for the similar effect on the pitch.

Further, the Norwegian manager also confirmed that United remain in talks with Jesse Lingard, with the club determined to keep a player who is ‘a Red through and through’.

Interestingly, Lingard was in the headlines this week due to his mistake leading to Young Boys’ winner, but he still has preserved Solskjaer’s trust and could be expected to have an impact from the bench or as back up to Fernandes in certain games throughout the another long-season.
