Franck Kessie has revealed that he dreams of representing Manchester United some day.

The defensive midfielder, who plays for Italian club Atalanta in the Serie A, also revealed that he models his game against Yaya Touré and Michael Essien, who play for United’s rivals Manchester City and Chelsea respectively.

He also admitted that the two players told him that he needed to put in more of an effort in order to be the best he can be.

“I have two football role models: Yaya Touré and Michael Essien. I take a bit from both,” Kessie told Sky Italia.

“Essien runs a lot and Yaya is a bit more attacking. They told me I needed to work harder to reach higher levels.”

Despite his role models playing for the Red Devils’ rivals, Kessie admitted that he has always liked United, and hopes to play for the club some day. For now, though, the 19-year-old is keeping his focus on the Serie A and Atalanta, whom he signed for in 2015 amid interest from Premier League club Sunderland.

“I really like the English league, but for now I have to learn the Italian tactics, and then maybe one day I can go to Manchester United,” he added.

“I don’t know if [Jose] Mourinho will still be there, but it’s a team I’ve always liked.”
