Juan Mata is willing to extend his Manchester United stay, according to the latest reports.

The Spanish midfielder has been instrumental to Jose Mourinho this season leaving behind all the negative vibes. While there were initial fears before the beginning of the season about Mata’s long-term future at Old Trafford, he has been literally indispensable to the Portuguese boss.

And the Daily Star on Sunday say that the Old Trafford hierarchy is ready to reward Mata for his consistent performances. It is believed Manchester United will activate a clause in his contract to extend his current deal by one more season.

They have already triggered clauses to retain the services of Marouane Fellaini and Antonio Valencia, while talks reportedly are in advanced stages for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Mata has 16 months left to run on his present contract. And it’s widely expected the 28-year-old, who joined in a £37.1 million deal from Chelsea in January 2014, is eager to carry on in Manchester. He has already shown his commitment to the cause by buying into a restaurant in the city centre.

However, Mata and team were frustrated on Saturday as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Bournemouth.

Successfully navigating their way through the FA Cup and UEFA Europa League, the Red Devils also won the EFL Cup in a massive triumph against Southampton at Wembley last week.

Now they have returned to their bread and butter, looking to move forward in their quest for Champions League qualification by securing a top four finish but their mission dealt a massive blow following the Bournemouth draw.
