Real Madrid has reportedly given David De Gea a strict May Deadline to make up his mind on a return to Spain.

The Manchester United goalkeeper has long been a priority target for Real Madrid and Jose Mourinho is facing a fight to keep him at Old Trafford.

But according to Spanish outlet El Confidential, De Gea recently had a discussion with agent Jorge Mendes who outlined the current situation to him. He may have informed Mendes to stop the negotiations with Madrid for the time being.

It is believed officials at the Bernabeu demand an answer by the first week in May, otherwise, they will have no other choice but to turn their attention to Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois.

De Gea’s Manchester United contract runs until June 2019 but there is perhaps a particular clause that gives the 26-year-old a chance to speak to Real Madrid if they offer £50 million. Real are keen to tempt De Gea back to Spain and over the past two seasons, it has been quite clear with their action.

On both occasions, the La Liga giants were confident to secure the deal as the Red Devils have not been serious Premier League contenders.

But under Mourinho, the scenario has changed this season and the former Atletico shot-stopper may decide to stay put.

Indeed, considering the inflated transfer market, the Old Trafford hierarchy may opt for a pay rise and extended deal for De Gea, with a release clause of around £70 million.

If the Spaniard rejects Madrid, Real Madrid will shift their focus to Chelsea’s Courtois as Zinedine Zidane looks to bring in a replacement for Keylor Navas before the next season starts.

Why should Madrid give a condition to a player who does not belong to them? David de gea is a Man Und player. Let them leave him alone.
