After Marouane Fellaini and Eric Bailly hitting the hospital beds, Manchester United lost yet another key player to injury during their latest Premier League outing.

The man in the focus is Antonio Valencia, who was substituted off during his side’s clash against West Bromwich Albion. The full-back seemed to be limping by the flanks before Marcos Rojo was sent on the pitch to replace him.

From the looks of it, it seemed like Valencia had sustained a hamstring injury, and that is exactly what boss Jose Mourinho confirmed during the post-match interview.

“This is what I call a December injury,” the gaffer said. “It is an injury of accumulation of fatigue. It is a muscular one. Hamstring. Big, small, medium, I don’t know. Let’s wait.

“I think he is an experienced guy to not let it go to difficult limits. But it is an injury of fatigue. Everyone in the Premier League especially the ones in more accumulation of cups, European cups, they are at risk.”

England’s busy schedule during the cold days of December and January is known to be hectic and demanding, which makes Mourinho’s concerns understandable.

After the right-back walked off the pitch, United’s shaky defense barely managed to edge past West Brom. Rojo was the centre of blame following Gareth Barry’s goal late into the second half, which shows the talented defender’s vitality in the squad.

On the other hand, it is still unclear when the Ecuadorian would be deemed fully fit for first-team action. But with Bailly ruled out for more than two months, the Portuguese manager will be hoping for a speedy recovery if he were to fancy his odds on challenging for the title.
