West Ham Ready To Sell Issa Diop For £60m

Manchester United’s interest in centre-backs has been one that has singlehandedly dotted the rumor-mills this summer.

The lack of a leader in the heart of their defense is the most pressing issue at Old Trafford this window, even more daunting in its long-term impact that the immediate futures of Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba.

Despite having a decent attacking unit last season and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer imbibing an offensive mindset, lack of quality at the back led to the club’s downfall.

A host of players have been linked with the side including Matthijs de Ligt, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Harry Maguire. However, now there may be promising news about their latest pursuit.

According to Sky Sports, West Ham United are willing to sell Issa Diop to Old Trafford provided a bid upwards of £60 million is offered.

The same report adds that while United are hesitant about paying the whole fee demanded, they are willing to offer the Hammers £45 million plus a player in tow to facilitate the deal.

Prior reports had claimed that Anthony Martial was the player desired by West Ham for the exchange but that the Red Devils aren’t willing to part ways with the Frenchman. Further, they are not willing to give up a player they targeted to a Premier League giant, as per the report.

The 22-year-old Frenchman has over four years left on his contract with West Ham which puts them in a prime position to bargain the terms of any potential departure. PSG and Barcelona are the clubs believed to be in the fray for his signature but West Ham seem to be adamant not to sell.

The source adds that while Diop is content with playing at West Ham, he has the intention of playing in the Champions League. This could end up on a painfully similar route for Manchester United.
