Manchester United Looking At Saul Niguez As Paul Pogba’s Replacement

The future is still hazy with regard to Paul Pogba’s future at Manchester United. Though the French midfielder had earlier admitted that he was looking for a new challenge, United has made it quite clear that the Frenchman is a commercially valuable asset and isn’t for sale.
Multiple reports have suggested that Ed Woodward has kept an enormous pricetag on the World Cup winner in an effort to dissuade offers.
Real Madrid and Juventus were heavily linked with the 26-year-old but as of recent, the murmurs seem to have quietened down.
However, the Red Devils are still prepping contingency plans.

As per the AS, Manchester United are looking at Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez as Pogba’s replacement at Old Trafford. The 24-year-old Spaniard has proven to be an important asset for the La Liga side and it is unlikely that they will wish to sell him.
Further, the report claims that the only avenue through which the Premier League club can acquire the midfielder is by activating his enormous €150 million release clause. Madrid have already lost numerous high-profile names this window and are unlikely to permit his sale for any lower price.
While a potential exit for Pogba will give the club plenty of cash in hand to spend, Niguez doesn’t precisely fit the Frenchman’s role, either tactically or commercially.

It was earlier reported that any replacement for Pogba will have to be a marquee signing and while the Spaniard does have the attacking potential, he simply doesn’t carry the same brand value as Pogba.
It is also possible that the United link is but a means through which the player is able to garner a better deal at Madrid, as has been the case on numerous occasions in the past.
The fact of the matter remains that if Pogba departs late into the window, United will have a tough time tying down a replacement.
