As football clubs slowly emerge from periods of lockdown and anticipate regular gametime, the fitness of the players will be the big question.

The months of lockdown certainly saw players display their fair share of commitment with social media fitness challenges and regular periods of workout.

Now, with the Premier League beginning it’s graded process of resumption with slow return to training at first, the full fitness of the players during and after the lockdown will begin to be seen.

And in this regard, one Manchester United player has displayed surprising results.

According to MEN, Bruno Fernandes was amongst the fastest players at the club during the period of lockdown.

In a test of sprints over 5.5 meters, Fernandes managed to clock in a top speed of 34.27km/h.

This is a steady improvement from United’s newest acquisition who was not exactly renowned for his sprinting ability, instead posing a threat though positioning and creative passing.

The Red Devils kept steady track of their roster during the stay-at-home period and as such these metrics have provided great insight on how well the player kept up their fitness levels.

Unsurprisingly, the top slot for fastest speed was occupied by Daniel James who clocked in a top speed of 36.8km/h.

The report also outlined some of the other tests that the players went through during the period, with the likes of Jesse Lingard and Scott McTominay coming out with great results.

Of course, in the case of McTominay, a mere physical sight of his buffed up body alone is ample evidence of the work that was put in.

Now with training resumed, it will be up to the players to couple their efforts with tactics and be ready when Premier League football resumes, slated for June.
