Diego Simeone is trying to convince his star midfielder Saúl Ñiguez to stay at Atlético Madrid and reject a move to the Premier League, according to El Confidencial.
Ñiguez is reportedly not interested in signing a contract extension at Atlético, and wants to move to a club that is ready to fulfill his contract demands.
And according to Okdiario.com, Manchester United are currently in talks with Ñiguez’s ‘Super Agent’ Jorge Mendes over a potential move for the midfielder. Moreover, United’s Premier League rivals Arsenal are also being linked with the Spaniard.
However, manager Diego Simeone is trying his best to convince Saúl to stay at the Vicente Calderón, and develop his talents “at home”.
Saúl Ñiguez seems to be one of Simeone’s favourite players, and the Argentine manager has used him frequently in various positions, as noted by Daily Mirror journalist Ed Malyon:
Aside from the elite defence, I love how Simeone can use Saúl as centre-back one week, left mid the next and he’ll perform. No complaints.
