Ranieri Reveals Where Mahrez Wants To Play Next Season

Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri has revealed that Riyad Mahrez wants to stay with the Foxes for the upcoming season.

Riyad Mahrez had a terrific campaign with Leicester last summer, wherein he scored 17 goals, thereby playing a major role in helping his team win the Barclays Premier League title for the first time in their history.

His performances were also recognized on an individual level, which is why he was awarded the PFA Players’ Player of the Year Award.

And naturally, his top-class displays attracted the interest of major clubs from all across Europe, and the 25-year-old was hence, linked with big-money moves to the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Paris Saint Germain, Barcelona, and Real Madrid, just to name a few.

Many believed Mahrez to follow the footsteps of former teammate N’Golo Kante, who decided to leave Leicester City and join Premier League rivals Chelsea.

However, the Algerian international imitated his fellow star forward Jamie Vardy, and rejected approaches from other clubs to extend his stay at the King Power Stadium.

Manager Claudio Ranieri confirmed Mahrez’s decision to stay put at the club following Leicester City’s 2-1 friendly win over Oxford on Tuesday.

Ranieri was quoted as saying: “I think everybody here is happy. It’s finished, the market has finished.”

And when specifically asked if he had spoken to Mahrez, Ranieri replied : “Yes, he wants to stay.”

Great news for the Foxes, who can now mount a genuine title defence by retaining majority of their star players!
