Timothy Fosu-Mensah To Stay At United

According to the Daily Mail’s report, which emerged yesterday, nine Manchester United players were set to leave the club. This list surprisingly included Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Youngsters like Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Andreas Periera, Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett, who rose to fame under the previous Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal, are on the list, along with Will Keane, James Wilson, Adnan Januzaj and German national team captain, Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Fosu-Mensah was signed by United from Dutch club Ajax in 2014. He has played for Manchester United’s youth teams in a variety of positions, including centre-back, left-back, defensive midfield and as a box to box midfielder.

He made his professional debut as a substitute for Argentine Marcos Rojo at left-back on 28 February, 2016, in a 3–2 Premier League win at home to Arsenal. The Dutchman went on to make 6 more appearances as a substitute, and started two games for the Red Devils since then.

The rumours of Fosu-Mensah leaving were not taken kindly by the United fans, who have very much grown to like him.

But those fans are now at peace, as Timothy Fosu-Mensah’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, exclusively revealed to IB that there is no truth in reports linking the defender with a move away from Old Trafford.

Asked by IBTimes UK about claims suggesting Mourinho was looking to off-load Fosu-Mensah this summer, Barnett replied: “There is no truth in it. These reports are complete rubbish.”

Fosu-Mensah too, revealed that he is extremely happy at Manchester United.

He stated: “To play for Manchester United, I think it is every player’s dream, I feel very proud to be part of a very great club. The fans of Manchester United are truly amazing; they always stick by the side of the players.

“My aim last season was to make my debut for Manchester United and that happened, so I was very pleased with that. I played 10 games and believe I developed well from that and learned a lot from it… So I’m happy how last season went for me.”

José Mourinho in his press conference today further weighed in on the Fosu-Mensah issue, saying that he has no intentions of letting the Dutch starlet leave.

When quizzed about his absence from the match day squad to face Galatasaray, he said “Timothy Fosu-Mensah is not so much injured but he has this little thing that we want to be careful with given that he is young.”

This certainly puts the fears of Fosu-Mensah leaving to rest, and the fans can have a sigh of relief.
