Revealed: Why Real Madrid Ended Paul Pogba Interest
Reports from Spain claim that Real Madrid pulled out of the race for Pogba’s signature due to his high wage requirements.
The France international completed a record-breaking switch to Manchester United this summer, but the Red Devils weren’t the only club interested in Pogba’s services.
Real Madrid were believed to be planning a hijack for the Pogba deal, similar to how Barcelona stole Andre Gomes from right under their nose.
However, according to El Larguero on Spanish outlet Cadena SER, Zidane’s side decided not to pursue the signing of Pogba any further simply because the Frenchman’s high wage demands would cause conflicts between the existing players and Pogba.
The powerful midfielder demanded an enormous €13 million annual salary, which means that he would have earned more than Gareth Bale, Sergio Ramos, and Karim Benzema. Cristiano Ronaldo would then have been the only player who would have pocketed more than Pogba.
Real Madrid President, Florentino Perez, was the man who pulled the plug on the whole Pogba plan due to the potential of such problems occurring.
However, Zinedine Zidane was still keen on signing the France International. Zidane continued praising Pogba even after his move to Manchester United was finalized.
