Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has dropped both Wayne Rooney and Luke Shaw for their trip to Russia to face FK Rostov in the round of 16 of Europa League.

The English duo started United’s last game against Bournemouth, but unfortunately for them, the game ended in a draw. Rooney, on his part, wasted a brilliant opportunity early in the game and was a complete anonymous figure throughout the game.

Shaw, on the other hand, started quite nicely but failed to deliver what Mourinho expected of him and was substituted in the second half.

Both the players are linked with a potential exit from the club as the former’s departure is looking quite eminent with Everton’s boss Ronald Koeman ready to welcome him back at Goodison Park, while the latter is reportedly unhappy due to the game time he is being afforded.

However, the Portuguese tactician clearly stated that he won’t be leaving the premises and quite rightly so, as full-backs of Shaw’s calibre will be hard to find.

And now to add a spark in the speculation, Mourinho has decided to drop the duo for their round of 16 game against Rostov in Russia. The fixture is expected to be a cracker majorly due to the recent hooliganism in the country and the travelling fans have been well and truly warned about it.

Furthermore, defender Eric Bailly has also not travelled as he will be serving his suspension due to his red card against St. Etienne. Bastian Schweinsteiger has also remained at Manchester as he will be nursing his injury – which Mourinho described as”a little thing” at the weekend.

However, the good news for the fans would be the return of Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The Armenian missed both EFL final and Bournemouth’s game due to an injury, but has been given a green signal and has travelled to Russia with the rest of the squad.

Manchester United squad in full: De Gea, Romero, O’Hara; Valencia, Jones, Rojo, Smalling, Blind, Darmian, Young; Carrick, Herrera, Fellaini, Pogba, Mata, Lingard, Mkhitaryan; Martial, Rashford, Ibrahimovic.
