After his exploits this season, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is ready to give Ander Herrera a new deal, as per the reports from The Sun.

The former Athletic Bilbao midfielder will be entering his final year of the contract next summer, but with Jose Mourinho very well impressed by his recent performances, it is understood that he wants him to stay at the club.

Back in December 2016, the Portuguese tactician heaped praise for the midfielder and said that he is having such a great season because he is feeling loved here at the Theatre of Dreams. Mourinho said to MUTV:

“I think the most important thing for a player is the manager and the fans.

“Ander has both the manager and the fans. So I don’t think he is worried about others bringing him to the limelight.

“He knows that he is having a phenomenal season for us.

“That is why he plays, that is why he had his international debut with the Spanish national team.”

Herrera joined Manchester United back in 2014 after he bought out his £29million release clause at Athletic Bilbao and is now set to activate his contract clause which will allow United to keep him at the club until 2019, and from then on, he will be offered a new deal.

An Old Trafford source said: “The club could wait a while before giving him fresh terms, but they do want to.

“There is no worry that he is entering the final year. Early discussions have already began and it’s all good.

“United can activate the extension any time. Herrera has impressed this season but Jose has time on his side

“He can make the call and do it now or wait and save the club increased wages in the interim.”

The Spanish international has been a complete revelation this term under Jose Mourinho and his brilliant performances have earned praises from many pundits. Even though he has failed to open his Premier League account so far, he has managed to grab three assists.
