Manchester City will go all out to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund if Sergio Aguero ends up leaving the Citizens in the summer.

Aguero’s role as the main striker at the Etihad is now under enormous threat, due to Pep Guardiola preferring the likes of Gabriel Jesus – who is currently sidelined due to injury – over the experienced 28-year-old. And this decision by the Spanish tactician has given rise to a lot of speculation as to whether the Argentine will continue his stay in Manchester.

Aguero was recently asked to clear the air regarding his future, to which he replied (via Guardian): “I don’t want to leave. I have to help the team as much as I can in these three months. Afterwards we’ll see what the club wants to do with me.

“In three years, my contract is up – that’s why I say I’m happy at the club. In these last three months that are left I have to help the club and, as I say, the club will decide if I have a place here or not.”

With both the player and the club deciding not to make any hasty decisions until the end of the season, it remains unclear whether Aguero would prolong his stay with the Mancunian club, which had led Manchester City to begin hunting for replacements as precaution.

In fact, according to The Sun, Manchester City have already identified Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the perfect replacement for Aguero, and the club officials have already initiated contact with the Gabon international’s representatives over a possible transfer.

The report adds that the Citizens are on the verge of overtaking Real Madrid in the race for the 27-year-old’s signature, despite the player himself being a huge fan of the Spanish giants.

Aubameyang, who has scored 21 goals already this season, has claimed time and time again that he will be leaving Dortmund at the end of this campaign, and Manchester could very well turn out to be his next destination.
