Manchester United are closing in on Antoine Griezmann – with sources close to the Frenchman believing a deal is on the verge of completion. The forward has for long been on manager Jose Mourinho’s radar and might make the move this summer.

Griezmann is expected to cost at least £86 million, but that doesn’t seem to faze Manchester United. They had spent €110 million for Paul Pogba last summer- Griezmann’s French teammate and good friend.

With United seeming to have found their feet under Mourinho, the management also seems ready to back their manager to the hilt. This will mean Atletico Madrid will be forced to sell if the Red Devils meet his €100m buyout clause.

Griezmann had been non-committal about his future off late. But according to the Manchester Evening News, the move to Old Trafford now is only a formality left to be completed. The Euro 2016 top scorer’s addition will add a new dimension to United’s attack, already comparison of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrik Mkhitaryan. This would almost certainly mean Wayne Rooney would have to leave the club.

Mourinho had always been convinced about Griezmann’s ability to be a match winner. His other option was Romelu Lukaku, though firm interest hadn’t been shown yet.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are also reportedly interested in the Champions League finalist. But Mourinho, and Pogba showing intent, the Red Devils are favourites to land him.
