The near-global lockdown has also meant that footballers have been deprived of the great game. Even activities like training which would otherwise be the norm in spending off-the-pitch time, have been rendered moot due to the social distancing rules.

While some leagues are returning to games and ending the season behind closed doors, a good chunk of the sportspersons are still left to themselves.

As such, they’ve taken to fitness challenges and social media to show off their gains.

This often leads to great pieces of banter, like the one exchanged between Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes during a crunch challenge from a few weeks ago.

Now, Fernandes has returned to his antics and this time it is Scott McTominay who has been targeted.

The 23-year-old academy graduate who has gone on to become one of the most instrumental players for Manchester United delighted his fans with an Instagram post.

The image showcases a ripped and well-built McTominay, ample proof that the lockdown period was being used productively by him and much workout was involved.

The caption: “Big week complete”, followed by a football emoji, said it all.

However, it was Fernandes who managed to have a hilarious jibe as he went on comment: “Scottyyyyyy training with the ball is really important, don’t forget that.”

Typical Fernandes, lightheartedly poking fun and rendering the youngster’s impressive physique as moot.

This isn’t the first time that United’s newest recruit has had his social media banter, as Anthony Martial is all too aware.

If anything, it further cements how good of a rapport he has managed to garner in his short time at the club. Now it will be important to see how these lads are able to work their mojo when football resumes to end the season.
