Mourinho Claims This United Player Deserves To Win The Ballon D’Or
Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United were not able to back up their League cup victory last weekend with a win in the Premier League as they were held by a gritty Bournemouth side at Old Trafford this weekend.
Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic was not at his best on the night but with 26 goals to his name already this season in all competitions, he is one of the most effective players in front of goal in Europe at the moment.
And Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho felt that the 35-year old deserves football’s biggest individual price, the Ballon d’Or.
Zlatan, one of the most decorated players in the history of the game, has not lifted the Ballon d’Or in his career but what is more surprising is the fact that he was never named in the 3-man short-list also.
However, speaking to the official Manchester United website, Mourinho revealed that Zlatan deserves to win the Ballon d’Or in the future.
“I think what he has done is amazing,” Mourinho told MUTV.
“The number of goals he’s scored, the two matches at Wembley, the trophies, what he is in the group, and what he means. I think he is absolutely phenomenal. No more words.
Over the last few years, Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona star Lionel Messi have occupied two of the places in the three shortlisted for the award and Mourinho felt that Zlatan’s achievements this season in England should put him there next year.
“I just gave an interview to a big French magazine with big responsibilities in these big awards, the FIFA Golden Ball and so on. I know about Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

“I know what they are and what they are doing but I can’t believe this big man, with the career he’s having, I can’t believe he’s never won it. “
Having helped the Red Devils to the Community Shield and the League Cup already, Zlatan is having a superb season at his new home and Mourinho felt that if he can help the side to another trophy, he deserves to win the big price.
“So why not this season, if he can do something special? If he can win more trophies, reach Stockholm and the Europa League final. Why not this man, who is 35 years old, to get that deserved award?,” Mourinho added.
