Bundesliga News & Results

The Bundesliga, also referred to as Fußball-Bundesliga, is the primary football competition in Germany. It was founded by the German Football Association in the year 1962, and its first season was played in 1963.

This decorated German competition is the topmost football league in the world when it comes to average stadium attendances. The league recorded an overall average of 45,134 fans per game during the 2011-12 season, which was the second highest of any sports league in the world, following the American National Football League (NFL).

Bundesliga is contested by 18 of the best clubs in Germany. Each team faces the 17 others two times per season, which lasts from August to May.

The competition has undergone various structural changes since its formation. Initially, a Bundesliga win awarded a club 2 points, whereas a draw was worth 1 point, and a loss worth none. But since the 1995-96 season, each teams receives 3 points for a win, with the points for draws and losses still unchanged. The team with the most number of points following the completion of all the 360 matches wins the title.

In case of ties, the factors used to break the ties are Goal difference, followed by goals scored, total points gained in head-to-head results, goals scored in head-to-head games, away goals scored in head-to-head games, and lastly, total number of away goals scored in the entire season.

So far, out of the 54 teams that have taken part in this competition since its establishment, only 12 have managed to win it: FC Bayern Munich (25 titles), Borussia Monchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund (5), Werder Bremen (4), Hamburger SV and VfB Stuttgart (3), 1. FC Koln and FC Kaiserslautern (2), TSV 1860 Munich, Eintracht Braunschweig, 1. FC Nurnberg and VfL Wolfsburg (1).
